A Galveston Homecoming: Waterfront Living Reimagined

Designed around the water, this Galveston remodel balances contemporary contrast with coastal warmth.

Some renovations begin with a design inspiration. Others begin with a destination. For these homeowners, the journey led them back to Galveston, Texas. Native to the area, they purchased a waterfront home with the intention of making it their permanent residence. What followed was a major renovation focused on creating a home that reflected both their personal style and their connection to the coast. The goal was clear: transform the existing property into a modern, highly functional home designed for everyday living, entertaining, and enjoying the surrounding water views.

Preserving Character While Creating Contrast

One of the defining elements of the renovation was the decision to preserve much of the home’s existing rear structure. Rather than replace it, the homeowners embraced it as part of the home’s story. To modernize its appearance, much of the wood framework was painted black, creating the visual effect of steel while maintaining the original architectural character. The dramatic contrast established a strong design direction that would influence the interior spaces throughout the home. Because black was already a favorite element of the homeowners’ aesthetic, it became a central feature of the cabinetry design as well.

A Kitchen Designed Around the View

Working alongside eggersmann USA designer Andrea Villamarin, the owners of this waterfront home on the Texas coast developed a kitchen that balanced bold contrast with natural warmth.

Light wood cabinetry was paired with black elements to echo the home’s exterior architecture while creating a welcoming atmosphere inside. The combination feels contemporary yet timeless, allowing the waterfront setting to remain the focal point.

Beyond aesthetics, the layout was carefully planned to support the way the homeowners live. Every element was considered to maximize functionality, organization, and flow while maintaining open sightlines toward the water.

Entertaining at the Bar

The adjacent bar continues the same material palette and design language found in the kitchen. Designed as a dedicated gathering space, the bar provides both practical storage and a sophisticated backdrop for entertaining. The interplay between warm wood finishes and bold black cabinetry creates visual depth while reinforcing the cohesive design story carried throughout the home. Whether hosting guests or enjoying a quiet evening by the water, the space was designed to feel equally functional and inviting.

Extending the Experience Outdoors

In a waterfront home, outdoor living is just as important as the interiors. The outdoor kitchen was designed as a natural extension of the home, supporting year-round entertaining while maintaining continuity with the kitchen and bar inside. The result is a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces that encourages connection to the surrounding environment. Together, the kitchen, bar, and outdoor kitchen create a complete entertaining experience tailored to coastal living.

A Truly Hands-On Vision

A unique aspect of this project was the homeowner’s extraordinary level of involvement throughout the renovation process. Taking on responsibilities often shared among engineers, architects, and project managers, the homeowner played a significant role in guiding the project from concept to completion. Their deep understanding of the vision helped ensure that every design decision aligned with their long-term goals for the home. With design by Andrea Villamarin and technical design by Guy Uberti, the project reflects the power of collaboration between homeowners and the eggersmann team. The result is a home that feels deeply personal—one that honors the homeowners’ connection to Galveston while embracing a fresh, contemporary aesthetic. Through thoughtful design, carefully selected materials, and a clear vision, this waterfront remodel became more than a renovation. It became a homecoming.
