project details
2727 Kirby is a 30-story, 93-unit luxury high-rise condo community designed by Ziegler Cooper in the vibrant Upper Kirby area of Houston adjacent to River Oaks. The building is as intriguing as the ceremony that preceded start of its construction over a decade ago.
A small group of the builder’s friends and condo buyers gathered for a blessing from a Rabbi Roy Walter of Houston’s Congregation Emanu El. Then the group deposited 18 coins into an immense hole in the ground. Rabbi Walter said of the ceremony, “It symbolizes that the people who live here should have a wonderful life,” further explaining that in Hebrew, each letter is associated with a numerical value. Summing the values of the letters in chai, which means “life”, results in the number 18.
While the luxury condo building was completed years ago, one of the penthouses had remained unoccupied and had not been built out. eggersmann was very lucky and excited to be a part of this project to help the new homeowner have a wonderful life.
the ask
eggersmann worked on the design of the kitchen, bar, pantry, and master bath directly with architect and interior designer, Lisa Roth, partner in Montgomery Roth.
The goal of the build-out of this penthouse space was to take full advantage of the expansive open space and almost complete glass cube that comprised the kitchen area. condo is spacious in every sense of the word from its 5,400 sq ft footprint to soaring 20′ ceilings.
The kitchen, living room, bar, and dining room are co-located in one large open space area surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows and balconies overlooking exceptional views of the city’s downtown skyline, mid-town Houston, and the Museum District.
The ask: create an industrial chic design to complement the existing metal-framed windows, concrete columns, and lofty ceilings without impeding the views.
the solutions
kitchen
A very clean minimal design was achieved using eggersmann’s German-crafted esign handle-less cabinetry in Dark Concrete finish for lower units and Icy White Gloss lacquer on the upper wall cabinets. We added Quartz Glass counter tops throughout including a waterfall countertop on the massive island built for dining while enjoying the vistas. An impressive stainless steel hood tied the kitchen to other elements in the penthouse including the metal window frames and artful open slat metal staircase. High-end Wolf and Subzero appliances were seamlessly integrated.
bar
The impressive bar flanked by oversized controlled-environment wine coolers was clad in a Concentric Stainless steel finish complementing the industrial elements throughout the space. The bar is centrally located in the dining area of the great room for gracious entertaining.
master bath
Dark Concrete cabinetry continues the industrial theme into the master bath.
