A darker take on coastal modern: Where texture, tone, and form redfine this Californian residence. 

Set within Corona Del Mar, this Californian home moves away from the expected light-and-bright coastal aesthetic and instead embraces a deeper, more atmospheric approach to modern living. The clients were drawn to a palette that felt rich and immersive. Clean in line, yet layered in mood, resulting in a home that feels both grounded and refined.

Working from a structure that already offered strong architectural presence, eggersmann designer Kelly Lafosse collaborated with Lindye Galloway Interiors to focus on amplifying what was there rather than overcomplicating it. Custom millwork became a key driver throughout the interiors, quietly adding rhythm and depth while reinforcing the home’s linear framework.

A restrained mix of materials brings balance to the darker palette. Concrete and metal elements introduce an industrial edge, while maintaining a sense of cohesion and control. Collaborators including Smart Metalworks, Accent Walls & Finishes, and Marblewest played an integral role in executing these details with precision. Each layer added subtle contrast without overwhelming the overall composition.

The kitchen becomes the defining moment of the home. Eggersmann’s concrete cabinetry establishes a strong, architectural foundation—dark, matte, and intentionally minimal. In contrast, the Calacatta Gold Excellente island introduces movement and light, with bold veining that carries across a full waterfall edge. A curved end detail softens the geometry, creating a sculptural element that feels both intentional and unexpected.

Extending beyond the island, the stone continues into a full-height backsplash, complete with a slim ledge detail that adds both function and a moment for display. This interplay—between sharp lines and softened edges, between raw material and refined finish—captures the essence of the home’s design language.

Constructed by Nicholson Companies, this home reflects a careful balance of restraint and expression. The result is a home that feels quietly dramatic—where every element is considered, and nothing is without purpose.
