Santa Monica Penthouse Kitchen

Project Details

Santa Monica is a popular place for residents and tourists alike. It offers so much variety and intrigue that it has been one of TIME’s “Best Places to Live” and its three miles of Pacific coast beaches that features the Santa Monica Pier was named one of National Geographic’s “Top 10 Beach Cities in the World”.

This project was also featured in LA Magazine!

These accolades are no surprise given the small city’s coastal setting with temperate climate, expansive parks, luxury residences and hotels, renowned restaurants, diverse galleries and museums, and high-end shopping. It is a spectacular blend of beach town charm and urban energy.

The homeowners enlisted interior designer, Jalda Hoff of Hoff-Genoist, and James McCabe of eggersmann LA to create “something super cool” for their new kitchen.

Jalda and James collaborated on a design that was just that using a dark and light palette that echoed the black and white motif throughout the modern luxury home. Each light fixture, cabinet choice, and accessory was chosen for its minimal elegance and “cool” aesthetic. Functional and fabulous features are everywhere…some hidden.

Special features:

• The breakfast bar is constructed from a translucent quartzite and accented with LED sheets underneath to shine through giving the “wow” factor that really was “something super cool”.
• Less noticeable are in-drawer sanitizing blue-light LEDs that offer helpful light when looking for that special knife or spatula and eliminate germs when the drawer is closed.
• Smoked glass cabinetry with glass shelving feature items special to the homeowners and highlight them with integrated LED lighting.
• Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry at the rear of the kitchen not only adds drama but also maximizes storage space in this moderately small kitchen.

• Upper cabinets flanking sink: Schmalenbach S28 Glass Doors with Anodized Aluminum Frame in Grey with Parsol Grey Glass, Glass Shelves, and integrated LED lighting.

  • Cabinetry counters: 5mm thick hot rolled stainless steel (by others)
  • Breakfast bar: Cristallo quartzite

Appliances

The ultra modern kitchen features Miele appliances: French-door fridge, induction cooktop, integrated hood, oven, and microwave. The design includes a The Galley sink accented by dramatic gooseneck faucets.
