The Ask
The famed architect, Chris Light, invested 3-1/2 years to collaborate with Van Cleve Construction and Slayman Design to create 9600+ square feet of perfection overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
In this Corona del Mar modern mansion, the design intention was to evoke a natural beach-inspired palette while striking a strong chord of minimal modern aesthetic.
The cohesive, warm, and contemporary ambience incorporates soft colors that flow throughout. The central four-story elliptical staircase is an architectural sculpture piece guiding homeowners and their lucky guests to roam, relax, and reflect looking out over the Pacific.

The Kitchen
Working in concert with the architect and interior designer, the eggersmann Los Angeles team rendered, designed, and installed the inspirations for a luxury beachside residence. Our cabinetry in sleek yet refined stone, wood, and custom lacquer finishes offer a calming artful sophistication. The eggersmann designs nestle seamlessly into the other designs throughout the home.
The eggersmann cabinetry and finishes throughout are in synchrony with the home’s beachy minimal spirit.
The kitchen’s tall cabinets feature Oak veneer with a custom-stain to match the home’s woodwork. In the tall cabinet wall, 3 custom Stainless Steel & Glass doors artfully display dishes and add depth to the otherwise flat wall of cabinets. The base cabinets are in Cappuccino matt lacquer.
Counter tops and backsplash were carved from Calcutta Lincoln Marble. Walker Zanger 30” x 30” Alhambra Fino Vein Cut tiles in a honed finish clad the floor.
Other adornments include Hammerton Studio “Ellisse” clear glass, satin nickel finish and a Kallista “Multiere” 45” wide sink in stainless steel finish with Dornbracht’s Profi hand spray set in Platinum Matte.
3 Sub-Zero units for fridge, freezer, and wine for a total of 8’ 6” of linear length of refrigeration storage were integrated into the tall cabinet wall.
A 60” Wolf range with a statement-making 9’ custom Vent-a-Hood vent along with a Miele steam oven, speed oven, and coffee system make everyday living and formal entertaining enjoyable. Two Miele dishwashers flank the sink with seamless integration into the cabinetry.
Though the heart of the home, the kitchen is just the appetizer for this amazing home.

His Closet
We achieved a masculine style paying homage to the beach-side location by selecting mid-tones using Schmalenbach’s Dragon Ash Matt Woodgrain laminate and “leather look” grey-brown laminate for all back panels. The use of Dark Bronze strip-handles and integrated lighting trim accenting warm white LED illumination completed the “his” closet.
His closet took its design direction from the interior custom-stained walnut doors in the beachfront house.
Some innovative, ultra-luxury highlights include:
- a glass display case with top window for easy viewing of the contents of an accessories drawer
- integrated lighting both vertically and horizontally on shelving
- hideaway swivel mirror
- pull-out integrated hampers
- retractable valet rods.
Her Closet
Staying with the lighter and mid-tone finishes to evoke the seaside location, we selected Pine White Rustica Woodgrain Laminate and Sand Grey Matt Laminate with a touch of darker tones in the stainless steel colored aluminum at strip handles, glass frame trim, and bronze-tinted glass for contrast.
The expertly customized detailed island is every woman’s dream with an integrated upholstered curved bench juxtaposed to the curved glass door wall. Stepping outsider our usual leather bench fabric choices, we responded to the managing designer’s request to achieve a softer, cozier feel by selecting a custom woven fabric. To boost the posh factor, we crafted the cushions with thicker than normal padding to create an oversized bench that you want to hang out on. Five display windows in the island top expedite finding the perfect jewelry, sunglasses, or accessories before you open a drawer. Drawers beneath the bench maximize storage.
Her closet makes a statement with unique design elements:
- a curved wall of glass-door display cases for a classy collection of Manolos and Louboutins, Bergdorf Goodmans and Louis Vuittons, and collectibles.
- a double-mirrored door case conveniently serves a final checkpoint to ensure she is perfectly coiffed for her grand entrance as well as offering hidden storage of miscellaneous necessities
- well-lit with integrated lighting, both vertically and horizontally
- a hidden safe cabinet built in below the window.
Her closet was detailed throughout to create a soft and feminine atmosphere.
