Project Details
The Town of Highland Park, part of the Dallas metroplex, incorporated in 1913. The 2.26 square-mile area is home to almost 9,000 residents. Its moniker comes from its higher elevation compared to the surrounding area and because 20% of its area was reserved for park space.
The Highland Park area’s recorded history actually goes back to the early 1800s where many big events occurred among Native Americans, Texas Ranger scouts, pioneers, and enterprising entrepreneurs. Today it is a far more tranquil place with residential streets lined with mature trees and world class shopping and dining within walking distance. Luckily nature has been preserved in the area’s many parks and nearby biking, running, and walking trails extending 240 miles including the Katy trail that follows the abandoned railway of Union Pacific’s old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. More than 2 million visitors from all over enjoy the 3.5-mile Katy Trail each year.
Interior designer, Andrea Smith, and her clients invited eggersmann Dallas designer, Gabriel Espinoza, to collaborate on creating stunning, yet highly functional, designs for five major areas of the stunning Mediterranean villa style home in Highland Park. Knox Built Construction executed the construction project to accommodate the final designs.
Kitchen
The original kitchen had dark cherry wood cabinetry with deep crown molding, very reminiscent of Tuscan cabinetry. The clients asked to brighten the kitchen with lighter luxe finishes and and bring a touch of modern design while keeping the essence of a transitional feel. It was important to them to bring some of the elements of the home into the overall design.
We selected eggersmann’s beautiful Fineline striped sand wood veneer for the perimeter cabinetry in combination with Modena Kashmir door style for the island and wall cabinets.
In addition to modernizing the cabinets, the kitchen is now fully equipped with Sub-Zero and and Wolf appliances, and a Miele built-in coffee machine.
As each eggersmann room is designed especially for the client and his or her needs, we added a coffee/juicing area next to the bar. The gentleman of the house is not a coffee drinker, so he wanted a space designated for his supplements and smoothies and juicing. A juice/smoothie bar tucked behind a pocket door is where now likes to start his mornings. The lady of the house had to have her coffee so we incorporated a coffee station with built-in Miele coffeemaker with pullout shelf below to add sweeteners and flavorings and drawers to store espresso cups, spoons, and all things coffee. Plus, in the side of the coffee cabinet, we designed touch-latch door to hide away the robot vacuum to keep it out of sight.
Abundant storage is located throughout the kitchen with many hidden solutions such as:
- Our electric auto-opening pullout pantry system is home to her most frequently used cookbooks strategically placed counter height next to the gas stove for easy access.
- A hands-free waste bin in the island next to the sink prevents wet smudges on cabinet fronts when prepping or cleaning up.
- A tall corner pantry system with 4 pull-out mechanisms was designed to house all countertop appliances including toaster, air fryer, rice cooker, and blender leaving the countertop free of clutter.
- A variety of boxtec specialty drawer organizers create a place for everything.
- Docking drawers with interior power create space for convenient, safe charging phones and other electronic devices without cluttering the counter.
Bar
The homeowners are not frequent entertainers and do not often imbibe, so they wanted a bar in a small area that would hide away and not be the center of attention. But, when the bar is needed, its location is conveniently near the main living area and home theater.
To achieve the out-of-sight, out-of-mind bar, we used our custom hidden solution bi-fold doors finished in a 3-dimensional tamboured vertical grain from our Lausanne range in Silver Oak finish. Behind the hideaway bi-fold doors, we used our exclusive Calgary cabinetry range in Fango high gloss finish with an outside frame for added dimension.
The couple loves to indulge with a glass of wine in the evenings with their Plum wine dispenser with a beverage fridge right below it to offer alternatives for their guests. The small bar area is simple in design, but functional in all the right places for whenever they crave to entertain friends and family.
Although small in appearance for the bar, we were able to create a space that offers abundant storage with selected features like our LEW electric pop-up outlets to plug in staples of entertaining in Texas like a margarita machine for fun entertainment! The interior of the sink cabinet door has a waste bin attached for easy cleanup without having to walk to the kitchen.
Primary Bath with His & Her Walk-In Wardrobes
Our décor Eucalyptus grey finish in a vertical grain creates movement and a touch of boldness in the cohesive quiet palette of the primary bath and adjoining his and hers wardrobes.
The bath vanity boasts a dressing table on one end and drawers galore that hide features such as an interior docking drawer for grooming appliances and pull-out hampers. Toe kick lighting adds drama and an excellent nightlight.
The wardrobe offers custom-designed storage features throughout such as velvet-lined lockable jewelry drawers built into the island, ladder pull-out, electric pull-down hanging rod, and integrated LED lighting in the glass shelves.
Lighter finishes such as our light bronze glass frames for elegant shelving and Kashmir high gloss finish for the closet’s island create an airy feminine appeal. The high gloss and glass finishes bounce light around the space. Design touches such as recessed invisible handles and sleek glass shelving deliver a thoroughly modern design. The wardrobe is crowned with a acanthus leaf-inspired chandelier to add organic shape and movement to the sleek room.
His wardrobe incorporated similar finishes and features such as the glass shelving, but we slightly darkened the palette for added masculinity using dark bronze frames and a touch of leather on the upholstered island bench in a smooth plain taupe finish.
Special features of his wardrobe include a hidden safe behind false-drawer doors, manual pull-down hanging rod, and interior acrylic dividers for belts and ties.
