As with every project that comes our way, this remodel of a W Dallas residence nestled between uptown and downtown, has a unique story. It all began on a sunny Saturday afternoon when eggersmann designer, Kegan Wilson, decided to catch up on some things after closing. Instead of ignoring a rattle at the showroom’s front door, he considered the after-hours visitors peering through the front glass windows might be out-of-towners that got delayed. His thoughts were confirmed upon opening the showroom doors to invite them in. The couple were preparing to move from Florida to Dallas.
The future Dallasites’ dream kitchen was a vision of a luxurious and chic, yet functional, aesthetic. While looking for kitchen cabinetry inspiration in the area, they had lost track of time. They had noticed a print ad with the eggersmann Chicago showroom display featuring our unique stone cabinetry collection in black Marquina marble with a rich smokey wood that led them to feel eggersmann was for them.
the solutions
kitchen
Existing plumbing, gas, and electrical dictated an impressive 13’ long island with sink and chef-quality gas cooktop and stainless steel hood. The double waterfall stone kitchen island with a combination of glass and wood veneer cabinet fronts is the centerpiece of the great room area with kitchen, dining, and seating areas.
The island’s veined-black double-stone waterfall cascading to the white marble floor tiles framing the richly grained wood veneer fronts delivers the wow factor the aerie deserves. So statuesque and luxe!
To display the couple’s elegantly simple dinner and serving ware, we incorporated glass doors with ultra-thin black metal frames on the face of the island using eggersmann’s award-winning glance glass door range. The glass-front shelves offered another opportunity to add soft, temperature controlled, LED lighting.
hideaway bar & storage
The clients loved a lot of the eggersmann unique cabinetry collection’s innovative systems because it enabled them to completely customize the space to fit their lifestyle. For example, a bar was very important to their frequent entertaining. They also wanted a sleek minimal aesthetic so storing countertop appliances was vital. We accomplished these desires by creating two custom countertop pocket doors at each end of the tall cabinets for convenience when in use and having them hidden when not.
In their 25th floor home in the sky, they have magnificent views of downtown Dallas, so to the back of the pocket door shelving, we added a backing of grey-tinted mirror to reflect the views and bounce the natural light into the home. At dusk, the shelving’s custom perimeter LED lighting details reflects into the mirror creating an even glow for drama as well as excellent task lighting. The pocket-door sections of the cabinet wall were designed so that they are stunning whether the doors are open or closed. The functionality of these flexible areas was further enhanced with custom EVOline outlets and USB plugs.
project challenges
Custom cabinetry was the only way to go as the modestly-sized kitchen footprint presented multiple challenges as many high-rise projects do. The existing layout lacked functionality and there was a 30” reflective metallic mosaic-tiled concrete structural column piercing through the middle of the kitchen!
Kegan took pictures of the existing space so he could pore over them to creatively solve these challenges to provide a more functional and visually appealing layout. The result was the build-out of a wall stretching down the backside of the column to deliver a clean canvas for a continuous wall of of tall cabinetry on both sides. By completely paneling around the column with cabinetry material, a tall, grand, and seamless elevation versus the existing two broken elevations like in the original kitchen.
