What is Phyllite? (fĭl’īt’)

phyllite black quartz from eggersmann's unique collection of cabinetry on a waterfall kitchen island

Phyllite is a quartz containing slate formed about 300 million years ago. The metamorphic rock is primarily composed of quartz, sericite mica, and chlorite. The natural stone surface varies greatly in color and veining with a texture similar to slate and the sparkle of mica scattered throughout. Varying surface conditions and air pores, different gloss levels, and colors of contained minerals make each natural stone kitchen unique.

The lustrous phyllite stone is available from eggersmann’s unique collection of cabinetry. The stone is characterized by its hardness, acid‐resistance, and heat‐resistance, and it is rarely scratch‐sensitive. It is exceptionally easy to clean.

Stone Finishing

Natural stone front panels are not processed vein‐matched as standard, but vein‐matching front processing can be considered on request with respect to the overall dimensions of the unique island and the available stone slab size.

The texture of this stone is achieved with a brushing technique implemented with precision using state-of-the-art stone brushing machine and a variety of brush types and gauges.
