A Second Life for Exceptional Design
When Houston entrepreneur Karla Diaz began searching for a kitchen for her new home, she never expected to find one that had already been designed.
The eggersmann kitchen she discovered was originally created as a showroom display. Through Aurora, which facilitates the careful removal and resale of showroom kitchens, it was given a second life in a setting all its own.
For Karla, the decision brought together the dramatic design she was drawn to and a more thoughtful approach to luxury, one that recognized the value of exceptional materials and craftsmanship already in place.
An Immediate Connection
Karla explored a range of showrooms and design possibilities before discovering the eggersmann display.
“I was drawn to its colors, its dramatic character, and how modern and sophisticated it felt,” she recalls. “Then, when I realized it was in Houston, I thought, ‘This is not a coincidence. This kitchen is meant for me.’”
The kitchen’s matte graphite finishes, textured wood, and natural stone spoke directly to her style. Stone-wrapped islands, integrated Miele appliances, concealed features, and rotating mirrors made the design even more distinctive.
“I’m drawn to beautifully crafted pieces, rich textures, natural stone, and striking details,” Karla says. “I would describe my style as contemporary luxury with a dramatic edge.”
Choosing the display also gave the entrepreneur the opportunity to build upon something exceptional rather than begin again. Its cabinetry, stone, appliances, and custom details could be preserved and thoughtfully adapted for her new home.
Designed to Live On
Through Aurora, the kitchen was carefully dismantled, with each component labeled and organized for its next installation. Karla’s architect and the eggersmann USA team then studied the new space and adapted the original design to fit.
Several months later, the kitchen came together with remarkable ease.
“What surprised me most was seeing how a kitchen originally designed for a completely different space could come together so beautifully in our home,” Karla says. “Once it was installed, it felt as if it had always been designed for our home.”
The transformation was possible because of the quality of the original design. Precisely engineered cabinetry, enduring materials, and adaptable components allowed the kitchen to move from one environment to another without losing its identity.
It also reflects an important aspect of sustainability: longevity. By preserving what already existed, the project extended the life of the kitchen’s materials and craftsmanship while creating a space that feels entirely personal to Karla and her family
At the Heart of the Home
Today, the kitchen sits at the center of Karla’s open, light-filled home, where the interiors share a strong connection with the outdoors. Visible throughout the living space and even from the garden, it feels fully integrated into the architecture.
“The kitchen truly is the heart of our home,” she shares. “It’s where we cook, gather, talk, laugh, and spend time together as a family.”
Her favorite feature is the rotating mirrors, an unexpected detail that brings another layer of personality to the space.
Through Aurora, a showroom display became part of Karla’s everyday life. Its journey offers a more thoughtful vision of luxury, one that values what has already been created and allows exceptional design to continue in a new form.
For Karla and her family, the showroom was only the beginning.
