Project Begins With Presence, Not a Pitch
2019 — 2024 • How a single conversation became a full-circle moment
eggersmann Dallas designer, Gabriela Espinoza, shares one of her personal accounts of how eggersmann’s approach to developing relationships first, then contracts, brings success for our clients, fellow trades, and our staff.
Chapter I — The Long Game
There are designers who sell, and then there are designers who show up. Long before a single cabinet was specified, before a blueprint was unrolled on a conference table, the relationship that would become one of my most meaningful projects began quietly — with admiration from afar.
It was 2019. eggersmann volunteered for the AIA Dallas Tour of Homes. It was great fun as you can see in the pictures below. During the tour, I found myself standing inside a space designed by Scott Marek Architecture, now Studio Lema. I didn’t need an introduction. The work spoke for itself — deliberate, refined, built for real human living. I filed it away, the way you do with things that matter.

Five years later, in 2024, I reached out to Scott directly. Not with a sales deck, not with a discount. I asked for a conversation — a real one — about how eggersmann works, what we believe in, and how our team partners differently with the architects and builders who share our standard of care.
“Some relationships aren’t ready yet. You plant them carefully, and then you wait for the right season.”
Chapter II — The Question That Changed Everything
After our presentation, something wonderful happened. Scott leaned forward with a challenge — the kind that reveals everything about how a collaborator truly thinks. He described a vision: a monumental kitchen island with a wood dining table sandwiched between two stone countertops. A continuous surface that would serve both the practical and the ceremonial. Several local cabinetry manufacturers had already told him it couldn’t be done.
I got to work. The island I designed for the project was not simply a piece of cabinetry — it was an intention made physical.
“They showed me the design and asked if we could build it. Without hesitation, I said: yes, we can do that. Because we could. And because that is what eggersmann does — we solve beautiful problems.” — In the moment trust was established
Scott Marek’s clients, the homeowners, dreamed of a home where grandchildren could gather around the table without worry, where large celebrations felt effortless, and where the transition from working kitchen to shared dining happened as naturally as conversation itself.
The answer was SPEKVA — our trusted partner in extraordinary wood surfaces. Their craftsmanship gave us a dining extension that could endure the beautiful chaos of family life while holding its elegance across generations. The moment the homeowners saw the design, they fell in love. Not just with how it looked — but with what it meant.

Chapter III — The Circle Closes
This project introduced me to Randall at Underwood Custom Homes. Working alongside his team, I came to understand that the finest projects are never the work of a single hand — they are ecosystems of trust, built slowly and maintained with integrity.
That trust has become something I carry forward. When dear clients and the talented designer Andrea Smith asked who they could rely on for their next build, I didn’t hesitate. I recommended Underwood Custom Homes — not because it was convenient, but because I had witnessed, firsthand, what they bring to every project. (See a past Highland Park home renovation that Andrea and I designed together for her clients.)
“When someone trusts you to recommend the people who will build their home, that is not a referral. That is something far more sacred.”
This is what eggersmann stands for — not transactions, but transformation. Not the fastest path to a signed proposal, but the deepest commitment to relationships that outlast any single project. The 2019 AIA Tour of Homes planted a seed. Five years later, it became a home that a family will love for decades.
From a volunteer afternoon in 2019 to a family gathered around a table — this is the work that matters. eggersmann USA — Built on Relationships
