How to Clean FENIX Core

This information addresses how to clean your FENIX Core surfaces. It is important to know if your surface is FENIX Core as not all matt surfaces tolerate all cleaning solutions. If in doubt, contact your manufacturer. If your product is an eggersmann product, refer to the information that came with your cabinetry or contact the eggersmann designer you worked with.

If you examined FENIX through magnification, you see a structure. The surface is not smooth as it may appear to the naked eye. The matt appearance is created by this structure that bounces light at many different angles reducing the concentration of light from any given angle.

Properly cleaning and removing stains form FENIX Core surfaces means doing so in a way that cares for its structure. The guidelines below may be deceiving in their simplicity, but they are important. The most vital is regular cleaning your FENIX surface. Regularity is based on how often you use it.

Everyday Cleaning & Maintenance of FENIX

  • Warm water is your first defense and highly effective. Warm water with a melamine foam sponge, commonly referred to as a magic eraser sponge is the best combination when more than simple wiping is required.
  • Any non-abrasive household cleaner may be used such as all-purpose cleaners, disinfectants, degreasers, or lime scale removers. For persistent gummy or sticky stains, even acetone can be safely used (read bottle label for health and safety precautions).
  • IMPORTANT: Avoid scrubbing with abrasive cream, a scouring pad, or a hard brush. Though unlikely to immediately appear as damage, in the long-term, abrasive scrubbing can lead to a glossy spot in the matt surface.

  • Another important step is to always rinse well after using a cleaner with warm water and always wipe dry with a clean cloth. The water removes dirt, residues from cleaning liquids, and sponge particles. Drying prevents a build-up of lime, calcium, or other minerals from hard water.

Deep Cleaning FENIX Core

The best way to do deep cleaning of any surface is to regularly remove dirt, debris, oils, grease, and dust. Deep cleaning will still be required periodically, but not as often if spills, crumbs, and daily use are cleaned up immediately.

If FENIX is not been cleaned properly over time, its appearance may change requiring deep cleaning:

  • Step 1- Degrease
    • Spray a kitchen degreaser over the entire FENIX surface careful to keep overspray from metals and other delicate surfaces nearby.
    • Use a clean cloth and warm water to loosen any residue build-up by gently applying friction.
    • Rinse well with warm water.
    • Dry with a clean cloth.

  • Step 2 – De-Mineralize
    • Spray a limescale removing liquid on the entire surface.
    • Use a clean cloth and warm water to loosen any residue build-up by gently applying friction.
    • Rinse well with warm water.
    • Dry with a clean cloth.
  • Step 3 – Polish
    • Use a melamine “magic eraser” sponge to make small circular movements to reach deep into the surface structure.
    • Rinse well with warm water.
    • Dry with a clean cloth.
    • If stains remain, spot treat with acetone (carefully follow the bottle label’s health and safety precautions). Following spot treatment, rinse well with warm water and dry.
