Yet, like those “flower power” colors, matte black makes a very powerful statement that feels more luxe than stainless steel. Matte Black is Here to Stay

Black is a timeless universal shade that fits in most styles and trends. Black has even outlasted white in appliances, so you might say it is the most trend-proof color. Yet, black is versatile serving as a prominent statement color or as a background for other colors to pop.

In spite of its ability to create a statement, it is neutral that combines beautifully with both warm and cool neutrals: grays, browns, whites, beiges, and navy. Matte black has introduced a new nuance to the classic modern black and white kitchen.

Matte Black Kitchen Appliances

One of the top ways kitchen owners bring this trend into their home is by incorporating matte black kitchen appliances. Two common options are matte black such as Miele’s Obsidian Black collection and black stainless steel.

From the built-in appliances to the freestanding and small appliances, matte black is available from most brands. But keep in mind that if mixing and matching brands of appliances matte black can be challenging to ensure that the finishes match as some brands matte blacks may be grayer than others.

Matte Black Kitchen Cabinets

True matte black enthusiasts are seeking ways to add velvety, opaquely finished cabinetry to their kitchens. Darker base cabinets with lighter uppers are a classic look, often in black and white, but our designers often bring a more contemporary look using tall wall cabinetry in matte black on the perimeter then using a lighter island achieving the highly desirable 2-tone kitchen while adding more modern flair. Plus, the darker perimeter recedes visually which can create a sense of a bigger space for smaller kitchens.
